In an effort to merge the 9-11 Truth Movement with the Peace and Justice Movement and inspire artists to think more deeply about the events of September 11th, we launched an art contest last April that concluded July 1st. The original idea was tossed out at a strategy meeting when the Northern California 9-11 Truth Alliance was celebrating a series of successful events- the premieres of The 9-11 News Special You Never Saw- The Great Conspiracy by Barrie Zwicker and a 5000 word cover story on 9-11 that appeared in the San Francisco Bay Guardian. We came up with a great ideas at that meeting, but actually pulling off anything requires, time, energy and resources. We didn’t come up with a solid action plan, or even identify the originator of that particular idea. It developed organically. We soon had a long list of sponsors and prizes to offer.

Our biggest obstacle was getting the information up on the website, we had to extend the contest deadline by a month, to logistically allow ourselves time for outreach. We also chose a very challenging theme that required much from the artists. We received a range of entries, and many had little or nothing to do with the theme, some were tangential. Many focused on the truth, the lies, the questions, but didn’t point a way out of the abyss.

I must admit that the frustrated artist, within my soul, bought canvas and paints two years ago, burning to do a work on this theme, but with three kids, weekly vigils, organizing rallies, marches, conferences, events, meetings, writing, publishing Deception Dollars, writing press releases, articles, a blog; I never found time to do it, and I was hoping some great artists would come up with some great images and ideas that we could use for our upcoming events, public outreach, and creative endeavors. I was not disappointed.

Winners will be announced July 11th, and we are still trying to figure out how to open some files, DVDs, which were sent to us. Only a fraction of the entries have been posted so far, here are a few of them.

Douglas Brown, a young artist in the UK, who at first wanted to be anonymous, sent us a picture; the original art is a school project in the process of being graded. His entry really tried to hit the theme on the head. Here’s what he had to say about it:

"It's titled "Problem and Solution", and it's originally for an art project I did at college. It was made with showing the problems and solutions of 9/11 to people who know little to nothing about 9/11 skepticism, in mind. By showing people the problems and then the solutions to those problems these questions about 9/11 are hopefully easier to swallow and understand. And that is what I really wanted to achieve with it.

I was inspired to make it because however small my contribution, I had to do something about exposing the blatant fraud of 9/11, for all those who died on the day, and all those still dying as a result in Iraq. Also it's about correcting a corrupt state of affairs in the world that allows something like 9/11 to just happen, and not be questioned properly in the public domain. The one thing I have realized is that people all over the world are all exactly the same, cultures are different and the Middle East and other parts of the world are not as technologically advanced as the west, but we're still all human, these wars are wrong and the only thing that can stop them now, and actually bring down the fascistic system that's practically running the world, is the truth about 9/11!"

Problem - Solution

In addition to the art, he’s also a musician and sent me the lyrics to a Hip Hop song he wrote-

So I wonder why this won’t be said// by Bill O'Reilly and the rest of those Fox news heads// but I guess their all just to busy telling people to SHUT UP instead// this is the mass media who are now in bed// with the most corrupt Government that doesn’t want the truth of 9/11 to be ever SAID!

But fuck the mass media it’s lame like leprosy// it’s faker then a fame seeking celebrity// just turn the news off iit’s just bs Government propaganda complicity// here’s one thing they don’’t talk about, it was covered up instantly// it’s not given any air-time although the government say ‘it’s collapse is a mystery’// Cus it was hit by no plane// but at 5:20pm still fell all the same// 6.5 seconds straight down playing gravity, like it's a game// the 47 story collapse of WTC 7 is the name// to this lil rhyme that’s got no ticket to fame// cus the mass media has been locked down all the same// by the Bush-government who cannot take the blame// cus that would be un-patriotic for a county that’s vain// despite the fact that the building had a CIA domain// with bullet proof windows on two floors// internal air and water supply, Iris scan doors// a sophisticated building with really no engineering flaws// Larry Silverstein he said to "pull" it right before it falls// on a day the Bush administration has used as currency, for all these wars// cus as it fell at free fall speed// frictional resistance should have step in to impede// but it's structure was blown apart// all it could do was recede// and if two small fires did this// then Michael Jackson aint no paed// I aint buying it small fires cannot be to blame// it's like saying President Bush has never snorted cocaine// WTC 7 was a control demolition saying that is not insane// flying derby is the excuse that came// despite the fact the buildings around it still maintain// their structural integrity, Just look at em standing they still remain// and Larry Silverstein’s making $500 million profit insurance claim //

It was announced, the man behind it was named// Osama bin Laden and his Al-Qaeda did all this from a cave// the 19 hijackers told to show Allah that their brave// they came from Afghanistan, bush says he’s going to put the evil doers left in a grave// war on terror announced, sirens hit the air like a world war 2 bomb raid// but while all this shit was going on, talk of war being waged// no one was stopping to think that maybe they’d been played// like how could a $30 billion intelligence apparatus let these hijackers spark a modern day crusade// what happened to the fighter intercept, when NORAD knew exactly what the control towers displayed// and how could those towers collapse considering how they were made// over designed to withstand a Boeing 707 impact, and could have been left burning for days// but yet they fall at freefall exploding into dust like a pyroclastic craze// blackening out lower Manhattan in a engulfing toxic haze// and what about building 7, which the owner implies was deliberately raised// this was all ignored, because the events had plunged the public into a daze// not realising that the Carlyle Group links the Bushes and Bin Ladens and gets them both paid//

The truth is 9/11 was a messy inside job, they fucked up at every stage// like the wrong house busted in a police drug raid// with clues littered everywhere like a ticker-tape parade// but the propaganda so skilfully conducted using the power the media has to persuade// switching the peoples attention to fanatical Islamists like a mixer cross-fade!

Recurring themes that have come up are the Nazi parallels, and the American people’s sheeplike behavior. Two absolutely stunning detailed works are by Chuck Bowden and by John Henry.
