Here are the upcoming events/conferences on community currencies, transforming the global economy, and related themes (currently 9-11 is my main focus). It is not enough to simply protest, and I want to list gatherings where people are working on positive alternatives, as well. 9th Annual 9/11 Truth Rally/March in San Francisco
which goes to the 12th Annual Power to the Peaceful Festival,
and afterwards, I will speak at the Take Back Gandhi's 9/11 event at the San Francisco Gandhi Statue from 6- 7:30 pm11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., Lytton Plaza (Lytton Plaza has been renovated and might be renamed. The plaza is at the intersection of University and Emerson in Downtown Palo Alto.)
Since October 2001, every Wednesday, except when it is raining; I have set up tables, banners, chairs, food, educational material, and created a space for public dialogue on key issues. Beginning in November 2007, I am doing this on a monthly basis, on the 11th of every month. We ask the public three questions and write down their responses-

Following the attacks of September 11th, the first "9/11 Truth Rally and March" took place in 2002, the Panhandle, marching up Haight Street and through Golden Gate Park to the Power to the Peaceful Festival. Every year since then, we have gathered in the Panhandle and paraded/marched to the Festival.-
Our rally begins at 10:00 am @ the Panhandle (between Oak and Fell at Ashbury)
11:00 am we begin our march up Ashbury to Haight, through Golden Gate Park to Speedway Meadows and to the Festival which lasts until 5:00 pm.John Fitzgerald, a serious campaigner for 9/11 Truth will be one of our featured speakers. Local activist, song writer, Vic Sadot will perform some of his songs at the rally, and during our march. David Chandler, physics teacher, video producer, compelling critic of the official 9/11 report, and Janet Kobren, local activist, a Gaza Freedom Flotilla Survivor, and Zachary Running Wolf, local native elder, encouraging a driving boycott will also speak.
Satyagraha - Truth Force was born when people gathered together, in their struggle against empire and racism in South Africa. On September 11, 1906, at a public meeting attended by 3000 people where Gandhi spoke, Sheth haji Habib, an old Muslim resident of South Africa, was inspired to consciously speak out and state his decision to act in defiance of an unjust law, that targeted the Indian population of South Africa. Habib declared his willingness to suffer the consequences in a spiritually-endowed fight for justice in the name of God. The theory of satyagraha sees means and ends as inseparable. The means used to obtain an end are wrapped up in and attached to that end. Therefore, it is contradictory to try to use unjust means to obtain justice or to try to use violence to obtain peace. Satyagraha is a synthesis of the Sanskrit words satya (meaning "truth") and Agraha ("pursuit of"). Gandhi believed that life itself is a the pursuit of truth. For Gandhi, satyagraha became strength in practicing non-violent methods, or in his words "the Force which is born of Truth and Love or non-violence." Martin Luther King Jr. defined it as "Love in Action."

The spirit of satyagraha, truth force, non-violent resistance, has never been more needed than in today's world and will be the theme of this year's march. We welcome all who are for 9/11 Truth, Peace, an End to War, Repeal of the Patriot Act, Military Commissions Act. Bring banners, signs, costumes, musical instruments, your humor, energy, messages. The Northern California 9/11 Truth Alliance will have a booth at the Concert and pass out literature to the thousands who support peace.

PEACE FOR KEEPS is a five year devotion that has held readings at the San francisco Gandhi statue on the Mahatma's birthday, October 2nd, since 2006. It has also celebrated the 1958 birth of the peace symbol, February 21 (Peacemas? Nth of Aquarius) in Berkeley since its Golden Jubilee.

BerkeleyThe room is part of the Berkeley Fellowship of Unitarian Universalist complex that has held many outstanding social justice forums at Cedar and Bonita, located past the courtyard behind the main hall, up the stairs.
There are many buses (the 15 runs on MLKJr.) and on Shattuck. Get off near Cedar (Bonita runs parallel to Shattuck and MLKJr.) It is between the North Berkeley and Downtown Berkeley BART Stations- about a 12 to 15 minute flat easy walk from those stations.

This is a great way to get the word out to massive numbers - and remind yourself and others that we are not alone. The goal behind this action is to take over the Berkeley pedestrian overpass with banners of peace, truth, justice, accountability, etc... We have a few huge banners ("9/11 Truth for Peace", and "Expose the 9/11 Cover-Up" for example), but feel free to create and bring your own (just make sure it is visible!).

American Monetary Institute's 6th Annual Monetary Reform Conference September 30, 2010- October 3, 2010

At the forefront of the Conference will be a description of the essential elements of monetary reform needed to "get the snake out of the house." The American Montary and Financial Security Act, a program for achieving the reforms will be discussed at length. This conference will continue to examine the problem of usury. Is it a necessary part of "free market economics," or is it a destroyer of nations, or is it both? The present false definition of usury as excessive interest, was foisted on economics by Jeremy Bentham, who also devised utilitarianism - dropping morality in favor of supposed results. But the real concept of usury is the anti-social misuse of the money mechanism for private gain. The conference continues to help revive this classical concept of usury and relate it to how our present privatized monetary system malfuntions, for example in creating the present banking crisis.
Because the world is still in danger of sliding into an unimaginable economic disaster, and warfare in the Middle-East, the conference will also focus on how a privately controlled money system such as we presently have in the U.S. leads to warfare by providing the financial motivation for starting unnecessary wars. Everyone has heard that banking and wars are related, but only a handful of people understand how.

I have been so busy organizing locally that I have not had time to update this. I even turned down a trip to speak at a big Eco-Money Conference in Japan August 2002, because I think it is such a critical time here in the U.S. to raise consciousness and expose the War on Terrorism for what it really is- A War on Democracy, Freedom, and Dissent worldwide!
